The Cluster Biotechnology - Life-Sciences - your regional innovation network for Central Germany

The Cluster Biotechnology-Life Sciences Central Germany is an innovation network addressing Life Science companies and research facilities in the states of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt . We  integrate research projects from three federal states and focus on a wide variety of scientific approaches and business models. This strategy allows for a critical mass of partners, international visibility and interdisciplinary thinking.

Central Germany  features a huge number of research institutes with different scientific priorities in biotechnology (e.g. red biotechnology in Leipzig, bioinstruments in Jena).  The Friedrich-Schiller-Universität,  Technische-Universität Dresden,  Martin-Luther-Universität Halle and the Universität Leipzig are scientific hubs of  Life-Science and biotechnology research. These are completed by a large number of extramural research facilities such as Max-Planck and Fraunhofer institutes. Next to these, state-owned institutes, a number of private research institutes like the Research Center for Medical Technology and Biotechnology (FZMB) or  the Institute for Bioprocessing and Analytical Measurement Techniques (iba) conduct research in biopharmaceuticals, tissue engineering and microintegration.

This strategy approach provides vast opportunities for synergies between different fields of biotechnology, e.g. between biology and informatics, to develop new products and business models in common projects. The different activities of companies and research institutions in Central Germany makes it possible to address a variety of market segments and conquer different elements of the biotechnology  value chain. It is our aim to profit from this huge synergy potential to serve the business community in Life Sciences in Central Germany.
